Condensation
Condensation – Moisture in the area of the house's windows
One of the complex problems that is difficult to detect is moisture that returns every winter and the cause of the failure is unknown!!!
This failure can only be detected by a leak detector with extensive experience. An example of the condensation process can be seen in wet rooms when hot water vapor moistens the walls or ceramics. In this example, warm air meets a cold surface and as a result, moisture is created on the cold surface.
This phenomenon causes mold and fungus stains. In winter, this process naturally occurs when it is cold outside and the interior space is at a higher temperature.
This process is usually seen in cold places in the house such as exterior walls and windows. We will encounter this process less in interior walls, although this phenomenon can also be seen in interior areas when, for example, most of the house is air-conditioned and a certain place is not, then it is a cooler place and the warm air migrates through the structure and reaches this area, then the process occurs.
In uninsulated and unsealed walls, for example, lack of insulation or lime or plaster-based paint, the moisture penetrates and is absorbed, and then we see the paint swelling and peeling, and sometimes mold and fungi.
In areas with a sealing layer, ceramic, sealed paint, etc., the condensation process does not penetrate the walls and remains on the sealed area. At this stage, puddles can be seen on the ground in these areas.
During the winter, when it is cold and the outer walls are wet and warm in the structure, the condensation process is caused. This does not yet require that there are sealing problems.
How to check for condensation problems
Dry the wet area with a heat diffuser or hair dryer
After drying completely, wait at least 12 hours. If the wall is still wet, the problem is probably another active leak and not as a result of condensation.
After the area is dry and there is no additional moisture, we will take a sheet of plastic and stick it close to the wall. It is important that it is close so that the wall temperature is transferred to the plastic.
The test is carried out for a few days when the nylon is close to the wall and the conduct continues as usual, the heating products are turned on and everything is in normal mode.
We will try to check the nylon area every few hours if liquid accumulates on the outside towards the room, we probably have a condensation problem.
If the nylon is wet on the side of the wall, then we have a sealing problem!!!
It is important to dry the wall well so that we do not get a wrong diagnosis!!!
Ways to solve the condensation problem
Insulating external walls
When heating the apartment, make sure to ventilate the space of the building
Heating the apartment with equipment that does not cause a high amount of steam
Sealing internal walls
Insulating the building is the most common solution to solving the problem and prevents the condensation process.
Insulating the building can be done with a variety of materials that exist for insulating buildings, for example, mineral wool, insulation boards, insulated paint, and the like.
Insulating and sealing the building is a high financial expense. It is better to hire a leak detection specialist to save large sums of money, and to get accurate findings on the cause of the dampness.
Before you go into a large expense on sealing the structure, you can contact us and we will diagnose the cause of dampness quickly and efficiently. Contact us for a free consultation
